Cartmel Valley Lions takes early lead and hold on for 8-5 win over Halton Polecats

Cartmel Valley Lions' four first-inning runs built an early lead that helped bring home an 8-5 win over Halton Polecats on Saturday at John Mills Ballpark.

 

Dale Hargan did his best to jumpstart the offense for Cartmel, reaching base three times. He scored two runs and had one RBI. Hargan singled in the first inning.

Harry Pickup racked up two RBIs on two hits for Halton. Pickup singled in the first and third innings.

 

Ryan Patterson rose to the ocassion out of the bullpen, hurling two innings of shutout ball while racking up two strikeouts and giving up no hits and no walks.

 

Aggressive baserunning led to 10 steals for Cartmel. Tom Woodburn had one stolen base, Patterson had three stolen bases, and Hargan had six stolen bases.

Patterson, Woodburn, and Hargan all collected hits for The Lions.

Manchester Saints outmuscled by Halton Polecats, 20-2

Manchester Saints racked up four hits, but it wasn't enough, as the Saints were 20-2 losers on Saturday at the hands of Halton Polecats at John Mills Ballpark.

 

Manchester Saints were paced by the production of Cameron, who reached base twice. Cameron singled in the sixth inning. Patrick Hansford racked up three RBIs on two hits for Halton. Hansford singled in the fourth and fifth innings.

 

Mike Dixon handled Manchester Saints' lineup with ease, racking up 12 strikeouts. The Halton Polecats' pitcher allowed two earned runs, three hits and four walks over 5 2/3 innings.

Halton Jaguars outlast Menwith Hill Patriots in high-scoring affair, 12-10

The bats were busy at RAF Menwith Hill on Sunday, and when the dust cleared Halton Jaguars had a 12-10 win over Menwith Hill Patriots in seven innings.

 

The two teams combined for 17 hits, including three extra base hits. Dan Lightfoot racked up two RBIs on one hit for Halton Jaguars. Lightfoot singled in the seventh inning. Brian Zinda racked up three RBIs on three hits for Menwith Hill Patriots. Zinda singled in the first and fifth innings and doubled in the seventh inning.

 

Halton Jaguars ran wild on the basepaths, finishing with eight steals. Lightfoot had one stolen base, Michael Hulme and Mitchell Cross each had two stolen bases, and Nick Bustin had three stolen bases. Cross had great control, as he threw strikes on 85 of his 167 pitches. Cross struck out 10 and walked 10 for Halton Jaguars.

Halton Borough Council - Club Accreditation

Halton Baseball & Softball Club are proud to announce that we have been awarded 'Club Halton' status. Club Halton is a scheme that accredits quality sports clubs who meet a set of agreed criteria.

Thanks must go to Club Secretary Alex Heesom for his work in achieving this award, we would also like to pass on our gratitude to former Head Coaches Colin Walton and John Mills for their work in laying the foundations for this accreditation.

Congratulations to Kirsty Cross, Paul Williams, Mitchell Cross and Carl Heesom who have earned their BSUK Level 2 coaching certificates.

Kirsty, Paul and Carl will be coaching with the Polecats in the junior section of the club. Mitchell will be carrying on his role within the Jaguars team.

Halton Polecats continue to get called up.

Congratulations to Jonas Grader who has been selected to represent Great Britain. This year, the GB Juniors will travel to Kissimmee, Florida to compete in the USSSA Gold Medal Games from July 7-16.

World Children's Baseball Fair.

Five young British baseball players will take part in the World Children's Baseball Fair from July 27 to August 4 in Kaohsiung City, Taiwan.

 

Halton Baseball & Softball Club are proud to announce that Bronco player Ewan Williams has been selected to take part. Congratulations and best wishes Ewan from everyone at the club.

Three Polecat players get called up to National Squad.

Congratulations to Owen Williams, Patrick Hansford & Tom Morrison who have all been selected to represent Great Britain in the 2011 SUMA open in Prague. The 3 players will join up with the rest of the squad for the tournament taking place from the 14th-17th April. Good luck !

Rally Caps Continue.
Schools programme expands.

Palace Fields: Another amazing session at Palace Fields School with our first grand slam hit today ! Well over 20 kids enjoyed another great session and we look forward to seeing them next week.

The Grange: The school development program expands today with Halton Baseball & Softball Club working in the Grange School Runcorn.

This means over 50 children are taking part in baseball activities between the 2 schools. Congratulations to Alex Heesom and Kirsty Cross for their hard work on delivering this programme.

Commissioner Election
Congratulations.

On Sunday 13th February at Birmingham City University the BBF held their Annual General Meeting. The main point of interest for Halton Baseball & Softball Club was the election of Northern Youth Leagues Commissioner. We are proud to announce that the Northern Youth teams voted for Larry Hansford, who is also Haltons Pony team manager. Congratulations Larry.

Rally Caps Are Go!
Schools programme 'Opening Day'

Monday saw the start of the club's 'Rally Cap' schools programme and first reports are all positive. Twenty eight primary school age children attended the first session held by Club Performance Director Alex Heesom. He was joined by Halton club coach Kirsty Cross.

The players went through their drills showing great enthusiasm for their first taste of Baseball. With a waiting list for places and plans to extend the scheme to other schools in the borough, it looks like the rally has begun. A big thank you to BaseballsoftballUK and Liz Knight for their help in organising the sessions.

Indoor Training
Preparations continue.

It maybe freezing outside, but bats need to be swung and balls need hitting. The Halton Jaguars continue their preparations for the 2011 season with weekly indoor training sessions. The junior teams are also working hard, readying themselves for the challenge of the new season. As 2010 NW league champions, both the Ponys and Broncos have already started their defence of the titles.

Schools Programme
Rally Caps at the ready.

Halton Baseball & Softball Club will be providing coaching sessions at a local primary school. The training, based on the successful 'Rally Cap' programme will create greater interest in baseball and help provide the club with it's next generation of youth players.

Volunteer Awards 2010
'Without you, none of this would be possible'

Every year we honour two people from within the club that the description 'volunteer' is not enough.

Club MVP goes to Glyn Lightfoot for his work on field development, providing the Halton teams with the best playing surfaces we have ever had. This year as well as playing full time for the Jaguars team, Kirsty Cross has continued to provide coaching for the junior teams, always there to assist when the need arises. Kirsty is the 2010 Volunteer of the Year

Another Friday, another awards event.

7 days, a change of venue and we are ready for another awards event. This time it's the junior team players who are nervously awaiting the outcome. The managers have studied the stats, reviewed the season, and come to their decisions. Larry, Nick it's over to you.

Jaguars Awards Dinner
'And the winner is'

The recipients of the Jaguars team awards for the 2010 season were announced last night at the annual 'Jaguars Dinner' Last years team manager Larry Hansford presented the trophies as the team gathered to hear who would be the lucky winners. After careful scrutiny of the team stats, the all important decisions were made.

Get the Major League experience from your local team.

Last year Halton Baseball and Softball Club started using the mobile app GameChanger to score the Jaguars' games, this was soon followed by the Polecats Pony team. The 2011 season will hopefully see the club streaming all its adult and youth games direct to the web, for fans to follow 'live' as it happens.

'2010 Awards'
Date and venue announced for awards events.

The 2010 awards events are once again split into Jaguars and Polecats evenings. The first of which will be the Jaguars' awards held on Friday 21st January at 7:30pm in Frodsham Golf Club.

The Polecats awards evening will be held the following week, Friday 28th January at 7:30pm in The Buffs Club (RAOB) Runcorn.

A new look for a new season.

Last year Halton Baseball and Softball Club finished on a high.

To celebrate the new season they have launched a new website.
